DESCRIPTION:During this National Library Month\, we are partnering with Authors in The Bahamas and internationally to promote this year’s  theme ‘Librarians make a difference in my Life”. The overarching framework of Libraries and our initial theme for the first to third and fourth year of National Library Month Celebrations was “ Libraries Build Strong Communities and Change Lives.”  \n\n\nPlease promote literacy by encouraging students and the public to enroll as new members of local library branches throughout The Bahamas and provide incentives for reading books of various genre not only to assist them in research projects but for enjoyment. Encourage stimulating book reports (By following some of these ideas found at click—> 30 Creative Book Report Ideas for Every Grade and Subject (weareteachers.com)\n\n\n\nMake a mobile – create your favorite scene\nCreate a timeline – include the important topics\nCreate a magazine ad for the book\nMake a board game\nPut together a Power Point Presentation about your favourite book or author\nWrite a letter to a friend informing them why they should read the book\nMake a bookmark of your favorite chapter\n\n\nThe National Library Month of March is based on the passing of the National Library and Information Authority (NLIS) Act on 10th March 2009 to foster a love for literacy and the development of a stronger and a modernized library and information society in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. In partnering with Mrs. Beverley Turnquest\, a creative Bahamian Author this month and in an effort to promote reading amongst our patrons\, please share the above information/flyer with users. The WhatsApp number for Mrs. Turnquest in included on the flyer.  \nWe would also be in collaboration with other Bahamian and other International Authors as we celebrate National Library Month. The Annual celebration of our National Library Month in March is based on our local Bahamian history of modern library development.  Next month the American Library Association celebrates School Library Month (April). Therefore\, it is not uncommon to observe Bahamian Schools follow the American Tradition. It is important for us as Information Specialists to be cognizant of the origin of the various celebrations and to also inform our students of same. \n\n\nThank you for your cooperation.

SUMMARY:Book Donation Drive
DESCRIPTION:You are cordially invited to attend a Book Donation Drive Event on Friday 30th April 2021 at Haynes Library\, Governor’s Harbour\, Eleuthera at 10:30am.\n\nWe wish to highlight the background to this event. It all began with a young student at the Tarpum Bay Primary School who began a virtual Book Club amongst her peers\, a novel idea\, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.\n\nUpon hearing this\, Mrs. Teri Bethel\, a Bahamian Author in consultation with the Ministry of Education\, and its Textbook Library Drive ministryofeducation.com and in partnership with the National Library and Information Services Bahamas\, decided to target authors of Bahamian contents to voluntarily make donations of their works to libraries. Many of the authors have responded positively to this call. The focus of this event is on gathering books by local Bahamian authors for libraries in Eleuthera. This is an effort to support students in schools and those who are library users. Subsequently\, acting as a stimulus to reading\, fostering study and research skills and promoting literacy. \n\nIn New Providence at NLIS HQ\, some years prior\, the Director of Libraries\, Mrs. Dorcas Bowler and Mrs. Monique Odigie\, Librarian had initiate an Author Book Drive\, where according to the NLIS Act\, Books of Bahamian content by Bahamian and non-Bahamian authors and publishers were invited to submit 1-2 books and reading materials in all formats for our National Depository # 9\, College Ave. opposite C.C. Sweeting Senior High School. This initiative is still in place\, therefore\, we encourage you to alert us upon becoming aware of new authors of Bahamian contents.\n\nWe look forward to see you or a representative to receive your collection of books. All COVID-19 protocols would be strictly adhered to.
